本課程主要希望能加強學生對電腦科學的基本認識，了解電腦的特性、架構與演進，並熟悉電腦的作業系統。同時亦能對電腦網路的應用、電腦多媒體等常識有所涉獵。而且透過本課程的學習，有足夠的能力進一步去探討各式媒體的發展，且能對各式媒體的載體與內容，可以具備獨立思考與批判的能力。
